NAS Link Aggregation

As a bonus, I’ve included a graph where all client devices were continuously downloading 10MB files. And the latency is as expected.

We are done with the throughput and latency tests, so I wanted to use the TrueNAS device I recently built. So I decided to test how well the RT-AXE7800 works with LACP aggregation of a pair of LAN ports. I found that I need to switch the WAN to a 2.5GbE port to aggregate LAN1 and LAN2 by default.

Why not let me use any LAN port I want? The problem is that I have a dilemma that I can’t figure out. Maybe it’s because of the long country wise email marketing list day,

But I don’t see the point of LACP aggregation on this router. I can connect the TrueNAS to two LAN ports and the connections work.

So we should be getting the full 2Gbps, or at least close to it. But now what? I have a computer with a 2.5Gbps port, but where do I plug the cable? The only ports left are gigabit, so what’s the point of LAN port bonding? Again, it’s been a long day, so let me know in the comments if I’ve missed something ridiculously obvious. It happens what is the supply chain and what is its importance in marketing? more often than I’d like to admit.

Lastly, you need to manually configure the WAN port because the so-called auto-negotiation is almost useless. This is necessary if LAN1 is configured as WAN, otherwise you will not be able to configure LACP aggregation.

NAS Link Aggregation Dual-WAN Performance
Now let’s look at the performance of the dual WAN router. It supports load balancing and failover, so I configured the 2.5GbE port as the primary WAN and the LAN1 1Gbps port as the secondary WAN.

Keep in mind that the device fresh list disconnects WiFi after every change I make, even if it’s not to the WAN ports, which is a bit annoying. After setting it up, I pinged two domains and disconnected the main cable. It took quite a while for the RT-AXE7800 to switch to the other link, so I checked how long it took to switch back. Only one lost packet. Not bad. Let’s disconnect the main line again.
